Circuit 1

Atlantic Pacific Birders’ Delight

12 nights/ 13 days

         Special Observation: Sierra Llorona was recently sold to new owners that have changed the purpose of the lodge. Similar quality lodging will be included in the circuit in the Caribbean area as to  assure the satisfaction of our customers. this does not change the pricing listed.  

Day 1, Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the Albrook Inn located in the Canal Area in Panama City, where you will have dinner and overnight in double room. (D)


Day 2, This morning after breakfast, you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to the Metropolitan Nature Park for birding with your naturalist guide. The Metropolitan Nature Park is the only city park in Latin America containing tropical semi-deciduous forest. It has a bird list of more than 200 species. You will return to your hotel for lunch. You will then take a mid-afternoon visit to the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute's Marine Exhibit located in Culebra Point where you will have an opportunity to watch the exhibit of Pacific and Atlantic marine fauna, as well as bird-watching for dry forest and shorebird species. During the late afternoon we will have time to review the days bird sightings. Dinner and overnight will be at Albrook Inn. (B,L,D)

Day 3, Following breakfast and early check out, you will be transferred to Pipeline Road. Once part of the Canal Zone, Pipeline Road is considered to be one of the finest places in the world for birding and nature observation. We will have a picnic lunch at Summit Gardens where we will visit the Harpy Eagle Sanctuary. We will spend time bird-watching around Summit Ponds and Old Gamboa Road in the afternoon, before departing for Santa Rita where we will have dinner and overnight at Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge. Before dinner we will review the days bird sightings. (B,L,D)


Day 4, With a box breakfast, you will be transferred to Achiote Road and Escobal area. You will have a box lunch on the field. You will also visit adjacent areas to Fort Sherman and Fort San Lorenzo. Late afternoon departure to Sierra Llorona where you will work on the Bird Check List of the day. Dinner and lodging will be at Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge. You must leave everything prepared for early departure next day. (B,L,D)


Day 5, After an early breakfast, we depart from Sierra Llorona Panama Lodge towards Cerro Campana looking for more foothill species. A box lunch will be served while in Cerro Campana. During the early afternoon we will depart the area towards the beautiful mountain town of El Valle de Anton. Upon arrival in El Valle, you will be transferred to your bed and breakfast, Park Eden Bed and Breakfast Country Retreat. After check in, you will have time to bird-watch around the lodge's grounds. You will have time to work on your days sightings before dinner. Dinner and overnight will be at Park Eden. (B,L,D)

 

 

Day 6, Enjoy an early morning of birding on the trail that goes along the ridge of Cerro Gaital, which is 3,000 ft. (900m) above sea level. You will return to the lodge for a garden breakfast, weather permitting. After lunch you depart for bird-watching at different spots of the area, including Chorro El Macho. You will return to the lodge with time to work on the Bird Check List of the day; dinner and overnight at Park Eden Bed and Breakfast Country Retreat. (B,L,D).

Day 7, After an early breakfast we return to Panama City for your air flight to the Province of Chiriqui. It is a one hour flight to David where we will be met and transferred to Guadalupe area. Time permitting we will stop at the Allan Herr look out before reaching Cerro Punta. Lunch will be at Los Quetzales Ecolodge & Spa. After lunch prepare to depart on your first bird watching adventure in the Chiriqui Highlands. Upon return to the lodge you will review the sightings of the day. Dinner and overnight will be at Los Quetzales Ecolodge & Spa.


Day 8, After breakfast you depart in 4WD vehicles to the cabin area, inside Friendship International Park (FIP). Afternoon birding along Los Quetzales Trail inside Volcan Baru National Park, in the area of El Respingo. Dinner and overnight will be at Los Quetzales Ecolodge & Spa. (B,L,D).


Day 9, Visit Park Ranger Station and trails at FIP, Las Nubes. On drive back to David Airport enjoy birding at Volcan Lakes, Macho de Monte and Buenos Aires, followed by an afternoon flight back to Panama City, where you will be transferred to Albrook Inn. (B,L,D).


Day 10, Breakfast will be served at the Hotel's Restaurant. Depending on the tide, we will depart for a guided shorebird tour with visit to Old Panama, Colonial Panama and to Miraflores Locks, first set of locks of the Panama Canal on the Pacific Side of the Republic. Lunch will be served at the Hotel's Restaurant and will be accommodated between the shorebird tour and the visit to the Panama Canal. Dinner will be at the Las Tinajas Restaurant where you will have the opportunity of learning about Panamanian folklore and national dress, la Pollera. Overnight will be at the Albrook Inn. (B.L,D).


Day 11. Early Breakfast and departure for Cerro Azul for birding in Altos de Cerro Azul, area to include several trails such as Calle Maipo and Birders View. Dinner and overnight at Hostal Casa de Campo Country Inn & Spa. Before dinner we will review the days bird sightings. (B,L,D).



Day 12, After an early breakfast, to Cerro Jefe Forest Reserve for a morning of bird-watching. You will return to Hostal Casa de Campo to have lunch. After lunch you will bird the lodge's grounds until late afternoon. Review of the days bird sightings before dinner. Dinner and overnight at Hostal Casa de Campo Country Inn & Spa. (B,L,D)


Day 13, Following breakfast, you will be transferred to the International Airport for your flight home. (B)
